Employee Success Story - Lennart van der Helm - Team Lead

Lennart van der Helm – Team Lead

“Possibilities are endless”

The Story

My journey to Bulgaria and Euroccor began with a thought - a thought for a change. The employment market in Holland can be quite challenging when it comes to young people. Keeping a job long enough to gain experience in one area and advance in your professional career is not easy. At that point in my life I decided to work and live abroad, in order to gain more professional experience and to develop my skills. This is how I ended up in Bulgaria. The funny thing is that I almost signed a contract to work in England at the moment Bulgaria came as an option to me. It was unexpected. A friend of mine, who knew about my plans, told me about Bulgaria and Euroccor’s offer and I took a chance. Before I researched it, Bulgaria to me was just a country somewhere in the East and I knew absolutely nothing about it. After I googled it, I found out that the location of this country gives me a lot of opportunities to travel. Greece and Turkey are in close proximity, just a few hours’ away from the capital Sofia. So, I’ve decided to give it a try and see what this country has in store for me. To my utmost surprise, Bulgaria was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. The social life, nature, the low cost of living and how easy it is to save money are just part of what makes Bulgaria attractive. There is so much more to be discovered…

Euroccor

At Euroccor, l started as a Sales Agent on one of the projects here. I knew more or less what to expect because I’ve been working in a Contact Center in Holland before. What I didn’t expect to see, however, was how people in the company are interacting with each other, make friends easily and form a community. This was something I really liked a lot about Euroccor and I still do. People here are hardworking friends, not just colleagues. A year in a half later I was promoted to Senior Agent and at that point I’ve decided that here, in Euroccor and Bulgaria, I have the opportunity to grow professionally, to gain a lot of experience and to learn new skills. So, I took it. The position of Senior Agent gave me a perspective of what I can achieve. I enjoyed my new role a lot. Learning about the business, the processes, and the quick decisions we need to make almost every day was very exciting for me. I was starving for more knowledge. Then another opportunity appeared – a job opening as a Traffic Monitoring and Reporting specialist in the company’s administrative and analysis department. I was hesitant at the beginning because I didn’t know if it was suitable for me, but I really wanted to learn more about the operative part of the business, to see the bigger picture. The interviews were tough and very competitive and I’m really happy that the company gave me this chance, because now, as a Team Lead, I can use this knowledge to be better at my job. For me, my career in Euroccor so far is about collecting all the puzzle pieces with the main purpose to complete the picture.

Making a Difference

Euroccor is a company with core values that are focused on its people and the business approach towards the clients. The community feeling that I mentioned, is exactly because of how the company encourages people to interact with each other in order to make a better team that works towards a common goal.
For me personally, making a difference in someone else’s life is about the opportunity to bring the best out of the person. I aim to encourage my team to think, to be confident and proactive in their everyday work. But mostly I would like to encourage them to be able to rely on their own judgment with minimum supervision so that they can grow and feel inspired. Once you start believing in yourself and your potential you see that possibilities are endless.

Outside of Work

My free time I like to spend, of course with friends but I also like to take time solely for myself and just do the simple things that make me happy. Sundays are usually dedicated to watching football or stand-up comedy shows. I’m a big fan of stand-up comedies. In other days I just like to wander in the city. When I walk on Vitosha Boulevard it’s really amazing that it makes me feel like I’m on a holiday, even though I live here.
One of my other passions is traveling. I really love exploring the world and see different cultures, a different way of life, a different mentality. I hope in the future, I will do it more often and someday I will finally visit New York, it’s been my wish for a very long time. But even here, in Bulgaria, there are so many beautiful places to visit, small historical towns, the mountains or the sea.

What’s Next?

Life is unpredictable and full of surprises, you never know where it might take you and I’m a perfect example for that - I’ve never thought I would end up living and working in Bulgaria. But for me, the next logical step is expanding and growing, learning more about myself, the business processes and developing my leadership skills so I can improve my team performance and reach new heights.
